Sheckler, Malto, & More At Etnies Skatepark

This Saturday, August 20, etnies and the City of Lake Forest are inviting skate fans and the local community to celebrate the completed etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest expansion project, which makes the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest the largest free public skatepark in the U.S. Party guests will get the chance to skate the park's new world-class features and celebrate with the etnies skate team, the owner of etnies, the mayor of Lake Forest and other city officials, while enjoying free food and music by the Blackouts. The etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest expansion event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the City of Lake Forest Mayor Peter Herzog, City Manager Robert Dunek and etnies owner and CEO Pierre-Andre Senizergues planting a tree as a part of replacing trees and plants that were displaced during construction. The party will continue with a skate demo and signing with the etnies team, including Ryan Sheckler, Sean Malto, Kyle Leeper, Ryan Pearce, Devine Calloway, Willow and Alex Midler. A taco truck will have free food for everyone, and music will be provided by the Blackouts. The $1,000,000 and nearly 22,000 square foot expansion project was funded by the City of Lake Forest, and the concept created by skateboarder and community input, Nick Gates and the City of Lake Forest staff and SITE Design Group, Inc. The construction was completed by California Skateparks, and brought new features to the already state-of-the-art park, including a cradle, mini bowl, street run, flow course, backyard style pool, upgrades to existing park features, and barbeque area for skate camps and events. "It's amazing for me to see what a success the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest is for the community," said Pierre-Andre Senizergues, etnies owner and CEO. "To celebrate such a large expansion demonstrates the power of coming together and hopefully will encourage more cities to create skateparks as part of their communities. Bravo, Lake Forest, for making a difference!" The etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest was a first in skateboarding. In 2003 it was the first time a skatepark was created through a public/private partnership. It was Pierre-Andre Senizergues' vision to raise awareness for cities to understand the importance of skateparks in their communities, and from that this public/private partnership was formed. etnies partnered with the City of Lake Forest to create this skatepark that currently has more than 1,200 skateboarders ride it each week. The etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest model shows that skateparks can be a major benefit to communities all over the world. Etnies Skatepark Expansion Grand Opening

The nearly 19,000-square-foot expansion is completed and features famous skating spots including San Francisco's Pier 7 Block off the Embarcadero, where many skate videos have been shot. There's also a back yard-style pool modeled after one in Riverside popular with skaters in the 1970s. A 16-foot-high by 8-foot-wide cradle is the expansion's centerpiece feature that is nested within a brand new flow course. With the expansion completed, the Etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest is now at nearly 60,000 square feet total – one of the largest and most complete skate parks in the nation. Skate-a-Palooza Debuts at Etnies Skatepark

Skateboarders rolled and musicians rocked Friday night as Etnies Skatepark held its first Bomb Grom, a combination concert and skate event. “Music and skating have always been a good combination. I think the event was a success,” said recreation coordinator Scott Stewart. “We do free concerts once a month. This is just the first time we’ve given the opportunity to skate.” While local bands played a variety of genres, skaters flew around from all angles of the park, giving the concert a kamikaze-like atmosphere. Kick flips, wheelies and huge arching turns seemed to flow to the rhythm of each band’s sound. Many skateboarders enjoyed the new wing of Etnies skatepark, which features a 3-foot wall for beginner skateboarders as well as rails, ramps and a looming bowl for the more advanced crowd. Visitors to Etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest will get the chance to hear live rock music from Southern California bands as well as skate the park's new features later today. Etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest Expansion Article

Check out this great article that was in the Lake Forest Patch regarding the completion and opening of the new expansion area at the Etnies Skate Park of Lake Forest!

Etnies Expansion Swells Park Attendance

By Sarah de Crescenzo The Lake Forest skate park expansion finished three weeks ahead of schedule.  Since it opened, quietly and ahead of schedule last Tuesday afternoon, more than 1,000 visitors have stopped by the expanded Lake Forest Etnies Skatepark. From local skaters who have not been by the park for months, to out-of-towners eager to try the new obstacles, attendance has roughly doubled in the week the park has been open, said park coordinator Nick Gates. "Everyone's back," he said. "It's totally revitalized the park." The new features, completed three weeks ahead of schedule, are bringing new life to the now-massive public park, Gates said. Among the improvements are a street run, mini-bowl for the youngest skaters, cradle and backyard-style pool, complete with shallow-end stairs. With the new additions, the park is now 60,000 square feet, making it the largest public skate park in California and possibly the largest in the world, according to city officials. An official grand-opening ceremony for the nearly 19,000-square-foot expansion is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the skate park, at 20028 Lake Forest Dr. Attendees will get the chance to watch a demo by the Etnies skate team, as well as skate the new features alongside team members. In the meantime, the skate park—including its newest features—is open daily 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. For more information, call the park at 949-916-5870. To view more photos of the park, click here:
