Skateboarders across the county will have something to celebrate this weekend as a brand new skate park is opening in South Riding, December 12. The 5,600-square-foot concrete park outside the Dulles Multipurpose Center features ramps, rails, stairs, stacked ledges, floating quarterpipes and a pump bump. “The park is excellent, ” said skateboarder Steve Jefferson, 21, who has been involved with the project over the past year. “It’s unlike any park I’ve ever been to. This park is definitely a modern-type skate park for this century. It has new features that are most likely not even in a street even, they are perfect for skateboarding.”
The skate park project, which has been in the works since 2008, is a collaboration between the South Riding Homeowners Association and the Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services. The park will be open to all Saturday, December 12, starting at 1:00 p.m. Normal hours will be dawn to dusk. Use of the skate park is free.
