Lake Havasu City - Tinnell Memorial Sports Park
The Tinnell Memorial Sports Park is Arizona's largest skate park at 40,000 square feet! The skate park is dedicated to local fallen soldier and bmx rider Patrick Tinnell, along with Colin Sasseen who lost his life skating in his front yard. In Patrick's honor, California Skateparks built a custom cradle in the shape of his army helmet and for Colin a large "C" was incorporated at the bottom of the stair set. The street course design is inspired by Street League Skateboarding's skate plaza-style course skated by professional skateboarders at the 2013 X Games at Foz Do Iguacu, Brazil. The upper deck of the park has a backyard bowl, a competition flow course and wall ride around a palm tree. The course also features a skateable pathway with rollers and a hip. Shade structures were incorporated for spectators and skaters to catch a break from the Arizona sun. This skate oasis has something for every level of skater, not to mention one of the most beautiful views of any skate park in the world! SITE Design Group was hired to assist in the design and manage construction documentation for this project.
