World Skate

29 March 2019

It is with great dismay that today World Skate learned of the passing of our dear friend Bill.

William "Bill" Spooner was indeed a remarkable, passionate and dedicated man who has given so much to the international sporting world, to the USARS, and to World Skate: He began his competitive skating career in 1958 and he dedicated his entire life to our beloved sport as athlete, judge and manager.

  • Member of the USARS Distinguished Service Hall of Fame

  • Gordon B “Budd” Van Roekel Lifetime Service Award

  • USARS Board of Directors Member

  • Past Chairman of the USARS Board of Directors

World Skate President Sabatino Aracu said: "He will be greatly missed. I would like to extend my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his wife Marian, his family and his friends."

The family has requested privacy at this time and that individuals wishing to make memorials, do so to the United States Foundation for Amateur Roller Skating.
